概要 Outline
グローバル化の波は、現代の世界を急速に変容させ続けている。本センターは、そのような動きに対応しうる（広義の）コミュニケーション能力の養成を目指して、そのための教育システムを多角的に研究するとともに、その研究成果に基づいて実践的な人材養成プログラムを策定し、研究科・学部内の諸組織および全学の諸部局と連携して実施に移すものである。
グローバル・コミュニケーションにおいて、ますます重要な役割を果たす英語運用能力の涵養については、2008年に理科生のためのALESS
(Active Learning of English for Science Students)、2013年に文科生のためのALESA（Active Learning of English for Students of the
Arts）という二つの英作文教育プログラムを開発し、1年次生の必修科目として実施している。2015年度からは新たに、英語で論理的な討議ができるように流暢なスピーキング力を鍛えるFLOW (Fluency-Oriented Workshop) の授業も開始した。
一方で、国際語としての英語のプレゼンスが増せば増すほど、この言語で形成される世界を相対化する視点の重要性もまた強く認識されるようになっている。トライリンガル・プログラム（TLP）は、日本語、英語に加えて少なくとももう一つの言語の運用能力を集中的に鍛える教育プログラムで、2013年度に中国語で開始され、2016年度からはドイツ語、フランス語、ロシア語、2018年度からは韓国朝鮮語、2019年度からはスペイン語を加えた。
このほかにも本センターでは、日本語教育システム、初年次教育、ファカルティ・ディヴェロップメントなどの分野で、多岐に亘る教育研究活動を展開している。
As the waves of globalization continue to transform today’s world at a rapid pace, the Center for
Global Communication Strategies at the University of Tokyo strives to meet those challenges by conducting
wide-ranging research on educational systems to foster
communication abilities in the broadest sense and by applying that research
to develop practical educational programs. To achieve its mission, CGCS
works together with other
organizations in the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as
well as throughout the University.
To enhance students’
ability to use the English language, which plays an increasingly
important role in global communication, CGCS has developed and manages two academic writing
programs: Active Learning of English for Science Students (ALESS), which
began in 2008, and Active Learning of English for Students of the Arts
(ALESA), which began in 2013. All first-year undergraduates are
required to take one of these courses. In 2015, another required course, the Fluency-Oriented
Workshop (FLOW), began with the goal of increasing
students’ skills in spoken English so that they can better participate
in academic discussions in English.
In a world where the presence of English as an international language
continues to grow, it is increasingly important to view that world from
multiple perspectives. CGCS’s Trilingual Program (TLP)
offers students the opportunity to acquire linguistic skills intensively
in at least one more language in addition to Japanese and English. Begun in 2013
with Chinese, TLP added German, French, and Russian in 2016, Korean in 2018 and Spanish in 2019.
CGCS's educational and research activities range across many other areas as well, including
Japanese-language teaching systems, first-year education, and faculty
development.
